Dear Reader,
During his time on death row, Randy has written several poems/lyrics, memoirs and journals. So far we have published 2 poetry books: A Constant Light, and Nothing Beats As Loud As My Heart. We have also published his memoir, Falling Down, and all of these books are available on Amazon platforms.*
It is Randy's wish for his readers to know that he does not view his published work as 'prison poetry'; nor does he wish to see it referred to as 'prison poetry'. It's HIS own work, and stands alone as art in its own right. He is not tethered to prison, especially when he writes, and his writing is an expression of freedom.
Randy has always enjoyed writing to express his creativity, and also as a means of therapy. His journals over the years have allowed his friends and supporters to keep up with his life, as well as chart the growth and maturity that has bloomed in Randy over the years. He has also chosen to write about his life as part of his 'giving back', and in the hope that others can learn from his downfall in life and how to avoid making the mistakes he did.
Randy did originally intend for any proceeds of his work to be donated to charity. However, the cost of Amazon printing, together with Amazon's own 'cut' meant that only a very small royalty was earned for each book - a tiny fraction of the price of the book. For that reason, and with the exception of the first rush of interest in A Constant Light (which we did manage to collect a small profit from, and forward to Children At Risk in Texas (you can see details of this under the A Constant Light tab)) we have chosen to not go ahead with any further charity donations at this time, and any royalties earned on Randy's books have therefore gone towards maintaining this website, paying for the yearly domain name etc.
We thank you for taking an interest in Randy's life, and his work. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we have enjoyed working on it.
The Friends of Randy E. Halprin
*Randy's website will be in new hands as of end of February/early March 2026. As a result of this, his books will no longer be available to purchase on Amazon. However, you can read all of Randy's work - Memoirs and Poems - on his new website. Thank you.
